Puerto Chino
Puerto Chino is a white-sand beach on the southeast coast of San Cristóbal, at the end of the road that crosses the highlands, about 24 kilometers (15 miles) from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. From the parking area, an easy trail of about 15 minutes leads to the beach through dry scrub with tree-like prickly pear cacti, Darwin's finches, mockingbirds and lava lizards.
The beach is framed by black lava rocks and is one of the most beautiful on the island. Sea lions rest on the sand, and on calm days the water is good for swimming and snorkeling, with green sea turtles, rays and reef fish. From the rocks at the side there is a fine view over the bay, and blue-footed boobies are often seen fishing offshore.
Puerto Chino is usually visited on a tour of the highlands of San Cristóbal, together with El Junco Lagoon and the Galapaguera de Cerro Colorado. There are no services on the beach, so bring water and sunscreen.
