Guy Fawkes
The Guy Fawkes islets are a small group of eroded tuff cones off the northwest coast of Santa Cruz: two crescent-shaped islets and a couple of rocks, named after Guy Fawkes, the Englishman of the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. There is no trail on land, so the visit takes place in the water.
Below the surface, the steep walls of the islets are covered with sponges, small corals, sea stars and sea urchins, and schools of reef fish gather around them, among them king angelfish, parrotfish and pufferfish. Sea lions from the rocks often come to play with snorkelers, white-tipped reef sharks and rays are common, and because the water is deep close to the walls, eagle rays, turtles or even a manta may pass.
Some cruises stop here for deep-water snorkeling from the panga, on the same day as Dragon Hill or North Seymour, and dive boats come from Puerto Ayora for day dives.
The water is deep and can be cool, so the site suits confident swimmers, and a wetsuit is a good idea for most of the year.
