About Finch Bay

Comfort and adventure by the beach

The Galápagos Archipelago is a unique destination: 19 islands declared a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, where you witness a dynamic volcanic landscape and meet animals that seem to have lived here before mankind. Giant tortoises, sea lions, marine iguanas and the famous finches that inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution are just some of the creatures you will find.

Santa Cruz, the second-largest island, has the largest population of the archipelago, most of it in Puerto Ayora, the urban center of the Galápagos with cafés, restaurants, shops, banks and ATMs. Finch Bay sits next to the only public beach in town, across a small inlet: close to the shopping district and to the island’s main attractions, Tortuga Bay, the Charles Darwin Research Station, the highlands and Las Grietas, yet surrounded by nature. Early risers can wade into the calm water and spot yellow warblers among the mangroves.

Its low architecture mimics the volcanic rocks, and wooden walkways leave the environment undisturbed. Finch Bay has won international awards for its environmental and social work, including World’s Leading Green Hotel at the World Travel Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017; it is a MICHELIN Guide selected hotel in 2025 and the top-rated hotel in Puerto Ayora on Tripadvisor.

Try the sustainable slipper lobster, a romantic dinner by the pool or a ceviche class; the hotel’s mixologist prepares surprising cocktails at the beachfront bar.

The spa near the beach offers authentic treatments and massages by trained therapists, and there is a heated pool with sun loungers, a fully equipped gym and a yoga deck.
