How a Galápagos yacht charter works

A charter means your group books every cabin on the yacht. The crew, the naturalist guide and the whole ship are yours for the cruise: you share the dining room, the sun deck and every landing only with the people you travel with, and meal times, activities and rest adapt to your pace.

The route still follows the official itineraries that the Galápagos National Park gives each yacht, and groups ashore keep the park’s limit of 16 guests per guide. That is why the right choice of yacht and dates matters: each yacht sails different islands on different days, and we help you match them to the wildlife you most want to see.

Most Galápagos yachts take 14 to 20 guests, which suits families and groups of friends. For larger groups there are ships of 32 to 100 guests, and two sister yachts can sail together on the same dates. Book your Galápagos flights with us once the yacht is confirmed: many operators ask the whole group to fly on the flights they reserve.

Questions about Galápagos charters

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in the Galápagos?

For a whole yacht of 16 guests, a 4 to 8-day charter usually costs from about US$40,000 to more than US$150,000, depending on the yacht’s category, the season and the length of the cruise. Each date on this page shows an indicative price for the whole yacht: the fare per person multiplied by the yacht’s capacity. Operators often offer a better charter rate, and your written offer confirms it.

Can we choose our own itinerary?

The Galápagos National Park assigns every yacht its itineraries and visitor sites, so a charter follows the yacht’s official routes. What you choose is the yacht, the dates and the route among those it sails, and on board the timing of meals, activities and rest adapts to your group.

How far in advance should we book a charter?

Ideally 9 to 18 months ahead, especially for Christmas, New Year, Easter and July–August, when whole yachts sell out first. Closer dates are possible when a yacht is still free: this page shows them live.

What is included in a Galápagos charter?

The same as a cabin booking: accommodation for your whole group, all meals, guided excursions with a naturalist guide, snorkeling gear and transfers between the airport and the yacht in the islands. Flights to Galápagos, the National Park entrance fee, the transit card, drinks and tips are paid separately unless the yacht includes them.

Can we charter if our group is smaller than the yacht?

Yes. You pay the charter price for the whole yacht and the extra cabins stay empty, so you have all the space for yourselves. For a small family, a 14 or 16-guest yacht is the most common choice.

Are diving or photography charters possible?

Yes. The Aqua is a diving yacht that sails to Darwin and Wolf, and several yachts welcome photography and birding groups with guides who know where and when to be for the best light and wildlife.

Do charters include nights in Mindo Cloud Forest?

Yes. Every cruise booked with Dana Tours includes complimentary nights at our own Las Terrazas de Dana Boutique Lodge & Spa in Mindo Cloud Forest, before or after Galápagos, subject to the lodge’s availability for your group on your dates.

How do we book a charter?

Tell us your dates, your group size and the yachts you like. We check live availability with the operator and send your written offer with the charter rate. A deposit confirms the yacht and the balance is usually due 60 days before departure.
