Morning. Pick-up at your hotel around 8:00 am and drive south of Quito, along the Avenue of the Volcanoes, to the edge of Antisana National Park, southeast of Quito: high-Andean grasslands above 4,000 m under the snow-capped Antisana volcano, a national park since 2021 and home to the most important population of Andean Condors in Ecuador.
The páramo. On foot and by car we explore the high-Andean grasslands, with their unique plants and wildlife: Andean Condors, Carunculated Caracaras, slow-flying scavengers unlike other birds of prey, hummingbirds, and the wild horses of the páramo. Nearby, the Antisanilla reserve of Fundación Jocotoco shelters about a third of the condors of Ecuador.
Optional walk. For those who are up for it, a walk by Laguna La Mica, the lake at the foot of the volcano that supplies part of Quito’s drinking water.
Afternoon. Back to your hotel in Quito at the end of the day.
